West Kimberley Regional Prison is located on Nyikina land, in Derby, Western Australia.
West Kimberley was built to be the main custodial facility for the Kimberley region. It can hold remand and sentenced men and women of all security levels. The prison’s ethos was to have an innovative Aboriginal focus, hold Kimberley prisoners in country, develop their independent living skills and self-determination, and reduce the likelihood of them returning to custody.
West Kimberley was opened on 1 November 2012. It also administered Broome Regional Prison until September 2016, when Broome Regional Prison regained the status of a separate facility.
