The Office conducted an occasional inspection of Banksia Hill Detention Centre in December 2021. It was initiated due to increasing concerns about the management and treatment of young people being subject to discipline and punishment regimes.
The inspection examined the conditions in the Intensive Supervision Unit (ISU), and B Wing of Jasper Unit. It involved the analysis of policy and practice through official records, onsite observations, and interviews with detainees, staff and other interested parties.
This is our ninth report about Banksia Hill since 2012.
